The big Windows 11 22H2 update arrived last month, but Microsoft isn’t done adding features to Windows 11 this year. Tabs in the File Explorer are now rolling out, as well as another feature called “Suggested Actions.”

Suggested Actions have been in testing since at least May 2022, but they are now rolling out to everyone with Windows 11. When your PC detects phone numbers or future dates in text, they are highlighted, and clicking on them reveals a few buttons with relevant actions.

Microsoft explained in a blog post, “for instance, when there are phone numbers or future dates in text, Windows highlights them, making it easy to click and call with Phone Link, Teams or Skype, or click to schedule an appointment, adding an event in your Calendar app and including the person you were communicating with on your invite.”

The new functionality is another instance of Windows bridging the gap with mobile platforms. Many web browsers already turn phone numbers into tappable links, and both iPhone and Android show actions (such as copying or searching the web for the phrase) when you select text. Keyboard shortcuts and context menus can already provide a similar role, but the new Windows 11 feature works across the system.
