Wirecutter Has Recommended These Hangers for Almost 10 Years. Now I Understand Why.

Each time I fling open the doors of my closet to pick an outfit, I’m deciding how the world sees me, as well as how I see myself. Of course, I want to look effortlessly cool. But I also want to feel confident in my choices, knowing that my clothing consumption is slow, purposeful, and mindful of environmental and social impact.

I strive to be intentional in my approach to building and maintaining a wardrobe. I try to stay away from trends (though let’s face it, nobody’s perfect, and chunky loafers are really cute). Instead of buying fast fashion, I save up to invest in higher-quality pieces or shop secondhand. (Is there a greater thrill than finding a gem hiding in the racks at a thrift store?)

This consideration doesn’t end at the point of purchase. Taking proper care of my cherished pieces once I bring them home is just as important—from how I launder them to how I store them. My clothes are not disposable, and neither are the hangers that I put them on.
