SOLON, Ohio — Fraud: Rockford Drive
At 5:05 p.m. Dec. 13, a Solon woman, 76, reported that she had been the victim of an online scam. The woman believed she was helping to fund the establishment of a medical supply company. She loaned more than $100,000 worth of bitcoin value to a man she met online, but did not receive reimbursement.
Burglary: Bainbridge Road
At 7 a.m. Dec. 14, a Solon woman, 75, reported a possible burglary that took place at about 10 a.m. Dec. 10. The woman told police that a man, about 55-60 years old with gray hair and a beard, knocked on her home’s door and said he was in the area doing repairs and needed to check her home’s water.
The man said he needed to see the house’s water main. The woman let the man inside and, instead of the water main, the man directed his attention to a storage room. The man concealed items in his waistband, then left. The woman is unsure what was taken.
The man parked in the woman’s driveway an older model sedan, possibly gray or beige in color. Police do not have a suspect.
Warrant arrest: Harper Road
At 8:45 p.m. Dec. 15, an officer stopped an SUV because of its expired plates. The female driver did not have a license. The officer then asked to see the license of the male passenger. The man, 26, of Cleveland, was found to be wanted on two warrants.
The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department wanted the man for carrying a concealed weapon, and South Euclid police wanted him for misdemeanor assault. The driver was cited for driving without a license, and the man was arrested on the warrants. Arrangements were made for a valid driver to pick up the car because a child was inside.
OVI: Aurora Road
At 11:30 p.m. Dec. 16, an officer saw a red Mercedes straddling two lanes, then make a wide right turn from Aurora Road onto Solon Boulevard. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found that the driver, a Solon woman, 60, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
The woman failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI. She had a blood-alcohol content of .211, well above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. Police additionally charged the woman with having a prohibited BAC, driving with expired plates and a marked lanes violation.
OVI: Stockwood Drive
At 2:45 a.m. Dec. 17, dispatch heard from a service called “Volvo on Call” that a subscriber’s vehicle may have been involved in a crash. Police did not find the car where the service stated, but got a description of the car and learned its owner. Police drove towards the owner’s home and saw the car turn from Pettibone Road onto Stockwood Drive.
When officers got behind the car, it stopped without police signaling for it to do so. The car had driver’s side damage and its airbag had deployed. The Volvo’s driver, a Solon man, 18, smelled of alcohol. He had bloodshot eyes and admitted to drinking shots. The man said a car had crashed into his, but police saw no evidence of this on the road leading to where the man stopped his car.
The man failed sobriety tests and was found to have a BAC of .217. Police arrested the man and charged him with OVI and having a prohibited BAC.
Assault: Miles Road
At 11:55 p.m. Dec. 17, a motorist reported an erratic driver on Miles Road, near Brainard Road. The caller stated that the car ran a red light and almost struck a pole. An officer spotted the car as it stopped in an intersection at a green light, then headed forward and drifted left of center.
A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a Cleveland man, 29, failed sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI. The passenger, a Cleveland woman, 29, was also believed to be impaired and was taken to the police station. In the car, officers found marijuana and an open bottle of tequila.
At the jail, the arrested man became argumentative and spit in the face of the arresting officer, and at another officer who attempted to help the arresting officer.
The suspect did agree to take a breath test. That test revealed a BAC of .155. Police additionally charged the man with having a prohibited BAC, assault, , open container, improper display of a license plate, driving without a license, driving within marked lanes, and not wearing a seat belt. He was also found to be the subject of a Solon police warrant for failure to appear in court on a traffic charge.
Fleeing and eluding: S.O.M. Center Road
At 10 p.m. Dec. 19, an officer attempted to stop a car for its illegal window tint. The car’s driver did not stop, however, and drove away at about 60 miles per hour, driving through a red light as he did so. The officer didn’t pursue, but was able to identify the car and it was learned that the driver was a South Euclid man, 18.
Solon police went to the man’s home and cited him for failure to comply with an officer’s order, driving through a red light and for the illegal window tint.
Improper handling of a firearm: US 422
At 1:20 a.m. Dec. 19, an officer stopped a car on US 422 eastbound for its illegal window tint and improper display of license plates. The officer smelled marijuana inside the car. Police conducted a search and a marijuana cigarette and bag of marijuana were found inside.
In the back seat, police found a loaded semi-automatic rifle. Also found were shopping bags, digital scales, pills (suspected ecstasy) and suspected controlled substances, believed to be cocaine. Additional substances were taken to the lab for testing.
Police arrested the driver, a Euclid man, 22, and charged him with drug trafficking, a third-degree felony; improper handling of a firearm, a fourth-degree felony; illegal window tint; improper display of license plates; and not wearing a seat belt.
