July is a very busy month for the smartphone industry. We’ve seen OnePlus, Samsung, Redmagic, CMF by Nothing, and Honor launch. Plus, Realme is still slated for a launch later this month (and Motorola launched towards the end of June), so things have been busy.
Xiaomi has a launch coming in a few days and the company is going to be bringing two foldables out of its vault. One will be the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, which is bound to be as great as last year’s model, and it will also bring the debut of the company’s clamshell foldable, the Xiaomi Mix Flip.
Xiaomi Is Bringing Its First Clamshell Foldable To Join The Growing Segment
There was a time when the only major players in the clamshell foldable segment were Motorola and Samsung. These days, there aren’t as many clamshell options as the book-style ones, but we’ve seen Honor join the segment this year, and now, we know Xiaomi is going to hop into the fray too. The Xiaomi Mix Flip is expected to launch on July 19th.
We can see that the device is going to have a massive cover display with slim bezels. The front cameras will be fitted into cutouts in the screen, just like the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra. Rumors say it’ll be a 4-inch cover display, which will make it the joint largest on a clamshell along with the aforementioned Razr as well as the Honor Magic V Flip. The screen is going to have a 1.5K resolution and 1,600-nit brightness.
We also know it’s going to have the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 running the device with a 3D vapor chamber for thermal management. This will go along with a massive 4,780 mAh cell, making it only 20 mAh behind the Magic V Flip which has the largest clamshell battery.
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 Is Coming Too; Will Compete Strongly With The Z Fold 6
I’m sure many other people will be more interested in Xiaomi’s upcoming Mix Fold 4, as there tends to be more on the spec sheet to get power users giddy. Well, that’s certainly the case as this looks set to be a very competitive foldable device, and will likely give the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 a proper run for its money.
The device is going to be only 9.47mm when folded, which makes it thinner than the Honor Magic V2, but it is still a few millimeters away from the current thinnest foldable, the Honor Magic V3. It’ll weigh only 226 grams though, which is the same weight as the Magic V3. However, it’ll be lighter and much thinner than the Z Fold 6 though. The device will have four cameras on the back with Leica tech, and one of those four will be a 5x periscope telephoto.
We also know that it is going to be IPX8-rated which is pretty much necessary for a flagship foldable in 2024. There will also be 50W wireless charging and satellite connectivity (though this doesn’t matter much for intending consumers in the US).
