Xiaomi’s Redmi K50G gaming smartphone is official with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 120W fast-charging, and 120Hz display

Xiaomi has today unveiled the Redmi K50G gaming smartphone which promises to be a powerhouse thanks to the presence of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and a dual vapor cooling chamber. Succeeding the K40 Gaming phone from 2021, the K50G will also be available in a Mercedes F1 Edition which offers a black, silver, and turquoise color scheme.

Running MIUI 13 out of the box, the Redmi K50G packs a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and the obligatory 120W refresh rate. The dual vapor chamber cooling technology should help the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset maintain peak performance for longer gaming sessions. The K50G will be available in configurations of 8/128GB, 12/128GB, and 12/256GB. Completing its gaming credentials are a pair of retractable shoulder buttons that, as the term implies, will hide away when unused.

You’ll find a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and the seemingly obligatory 2MP macro lens on the rear panel along with a 20MP selfie camera. The fingerprint reader is mounted on the side of the phone,

A 4,700mAh battery is present, and while it’s a smaller unit than on K50G’s predecessor, it supports ultra-quick 120W wired charging which should help smooth things over. Other notable features include Gorilla Glass Victus protection, Wi-Fi 6E support, NFC, and improved haptic feedback which should be reflected in the gaming experience.

It’s not certain whether the Redmi K50G will be released outside of China as it is, or perhaps as a rebranded Poco handset called the F4 GT. In China, the Redmi K50G will cost around $520 for the 8/128GB variant, $570 for the 12/128GB version, $615 for the 12/256GB configuration, while the rather snazzy-looking Mercedes F1 Edition costs roughly $660.
