Vacuuming and mopping is easily one of the worst parts of the weekly chore rotation, and that old vacuum you got from Best Buy a few years ago probably isn’t holding up as well as you want it to, right? That’s exactly where a robot vacuum comes in.
You download an app, let it scan your house, and it’ll take care of the automatic vacuuming duties. Easy, right? It usually is, but not all of these robovacs are built equally. We’re checking out Yeedi’s high-powered S14 Plus Robot vac, which offers vacuuming and mopping duties with a light touch of AI, of course. But is it worth the price tag? Let’s find out.
Fully featured
Robovacs tend to have more features than you’d expect them to, and Yeedi does a great job keeping up with the competition. It has all of the standard features that let the vacuum really work well, including full house mapping, obstacle tracking, and a variety of different suction modes based on the kind of flooring it’s on. The S14 Plus uses AI to more intelligently understand dirt and stains around it, adjusting cleaning and mopping power based on where it’s at. You need more suction on thicker carpet, and some of the stains on your kitchen floor might need an extra pass or two, for example.
If you do want to tweak it, the S14 Plus is more than happy to let you do that. You can set up extra passes, manually adjust suction strength, and change your map to list what kind of floor certain rooms have in case it didn’t accurately track it during the initial setup. You can drop furniture and walls around the map, set up dividers, ramps, and so on. The map itself is one of the better robovac maps we’ve tested, with Yeedi’s app being very responsive to changes and swipes. You can also turn off the AI features if that sort of thing doesn’t sit well with you.
Mopping up
The other big selling point of the S14 Plus is its ability to not only mop your house but to do so intelligently and to self-clean. The rollers and mechanisms in the (admittedly heavy) robot handle all of this with almost no intervention from you. While the RoboVac does its thing, the mop roller self-cleans with its stored water and built-in scrapers, which means it’s actually mopping your floor and not just spreading dirty water all over the place.
Once done, the vacuum automatically sends the dirty water into the left reservoir in the base station and reloads itself with clean water from the proper reservoir. This is generally very low maintenance, so you’ll only have to keep those reservoirs emptied and filled, respectively, periodically.
Strong performance
Of course, it’s still a vacuum. So, is Yeedi’s S14 Plus a good vacuum, or just a pretty set of features and a self-cleaning mop?
Yeah, it’s actually pretty good. Don’t worry. The suction is strong, and like the mop counterpart, the base station has a dust bag that the vacuum will empty after a job. I love low maintenance.
It does very well on carpet and tile floor, properly adjusting suction speeds to clean without making too much racket. If you want a great clean and don’t care about the noise, though, you can turn off all of those reduced-noise features and let it go to town. It’s as good as any other robovac I’ve tested, and the smart features and positioning help it get right along the edges of furniture and walls pretty effectively. Mine did get itself stuck on an upturned corner of a rug once, but besides that single hiccup, it’s been smooth sailing.
Battery life is typically fine, with the Yeedi S14 Plus able to vacuum around 1000 square feet and mop about half of that with about 30 – 40% of its battery left. That’s enough left over to quickly jump back into vacuuming if something gets spilled or gets stuck while you’re not home, but running both options simultaneously will certainly drain the battery on larger living spaces. Something to keep in mind if you have a larger home or need more consistent mopping with the vacuuming.
Worth it?
In my experience, this has all worked really well. The auto cleaning features work without any manual changes, and it did a great job of intelligently mapping the house and respecting boundaries without fighting and arguing like we’ve seen some other robovacs do. I genuinely love the self-cleaning features, so I don’t have to do more maintenance on the vacuum itself than I’d spend just vacuuming my house anyway.
I’ve got a good mix of carpet and tile, plus a fuzzy dog, so the vacuum’s been dealing with a medium-difficult environment. The app itself is solid, albeit with some odd translation quirks here and there, but that’s pretty standard for these vacuum apps. My biggest gripe is, surprisingly, the grating speaker and noises the vacuum makes. Every change you make sounds like an obnoxious DING played through a busted box store speaker from the early ’90s. I have, unfortunately, not been able to find a setting to turn these off. Ah, well, nothing’s perfect.
All in all, Yeedi’s crafted a pretty great cleaning companion. It’s efficient, low maintenance, and works extremely well. All of the parts are user-replaceable, too, and they’re sold directly on Yeedi’s store, so you should be able to keep it running for a while without having to replace it. That’s a huge plus because the standard $1199 price tag is a lot to ask for a robovac. It stands at the top of its class and will absolutely do a better job than the cheaper vacuums you’re picking up off Prime Day sales, but there’s no doubt that a separate mortgage payment is a tall order not to have to vacuum yourself. The battery life is really the only serious knock here, but that should only be a major issue if you’re in a huge house and can’t wait in between charges.
But if you do want to save yourself the time and hassle of vacuuming and mopping and want a low-fuss, low-maintenance option that will handle it for you with as few steps as possible, the S14 Plus is an excellent option.
