You can finally customize the bottom bar on Twitter’s Android app – but you’ll need to pay for the privilege

How annoying is the bottom bar of Twitter’s app on Android? If, like me, you’ve no room in your life (or on your phone) for Twitter’s Explore or Spaces tabs on the bottom bar of the app, you can now show them the door – but only if you are willing to give the social network some of your hard-earned dough every month. Why? Because the option to customize the bottom bar is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers.

If you pay the $3 monthly fee for Twitter Blue, you’ll be able to trim the options on the bottom bar down to just Home and one other destination of your choosing – Explore, Notifications, Spaces, or Direct Messages. As a Twitter Blue subscriber using an Android device, you’ll also gain the ability to undo tweets, read ad-free articles, and even customize the color schemes on the Twitter app.

While we still aren’t sure that these features offer value for money, paying the $3 monthly fee for Twitter Blue is the only way to go unless you use a third-party app to access Twitter. Then again, with Twitter Blue only being available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, those who reside elsewhere will be limited to third-party apps that have their own limitations. It’s unclear when or if Twitter Blue will roll out to other regions.

If you do live in one of the supported regions, though, does the ability to customize the bottom bar on Twitter’s Android app make the $3 monthly subscription worth it? Let us know in the comments below.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries a Realme GT Neo 2 in his pockets, a Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
