Netflix is adding a nifty feature for iPhone and iPad users. Now, assuming you have the headphones that can actually take advantage of it, you can enjoy spatial audio through Netflix on your mobile device.
Netflix Gets Spatial Audio on iPhone and iPad
In order to take advantage of spatial audio in Netflix, you’ll need to have a pair of AirPods Pro or AirPods Max headphones, as they’re the only ones that currently support the feature. You’ll also need to make sure to turn spatial audio on through your iPhone or iPad’s settings.
The Netflix update was first spotted by a Reddit user and was later confirmed by iGeneration. Netflix says that it will be slowly rolling the feature out, so you may not have it just yet. Make sure to update your Netflix app to the latest version to see if you have spatial audio support. If not, you’ll just have to be patient.
What Does Spatial Audio on iPhone and iPad Do?
Spatial audio on Apple devices is quite a trip that you need to experience to really get it. It creates a surround sound experience that actually keeps the sound flowing from the correct location even as you turn your head.
That means that as you’re taking in the best movies Netflix has to offer, you’ll be fully immersed in a theater-like experience (spatial audio is especially cool for action movies).
According to Apple, “Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings theater-like sound that surrounds you from the movie or video you’re watching, so that it seems as if the sound is coming from all around you. The sound field stays mapped to the device, and the voice stays with the actor or action on screen.”
Experiencing that level of sound through Netflix, which contains all sorts of TV shows and movies to watch, is really exciting and yet another reason to consider picking up a pair of AirPods Pro or AirPods Max headphones.
