Ahead of the upcoming holiday season, Patreon will allow you to gift memberships to friends and family. Patreon says it’s a chance for creators to give their revenue a “holiday boost” and for fans to send a thoughtful gift.
Firstly, Patreon members can now buy or upgrade a membership for anybody and share it with a simple link. “With gifting, they can now introduce friends, family, and fellow fans to new work or upgrade an existing free member’s experience to paid,” Patreon explained the new feature in a blog post.
When buying a gift subscription, you can choose a membership tier and the duration of the subscription, and share it with a personalized message. The recipient just has to tap the shared link to activate the subscription.
Select Patreon creators can also offer complimentary membership subscriptions, as a way to say thanks or just give fans a free trial of the paid perks. To qualify, creators have to be on the subscription billing type with a paid tier that’s not restricted. Each gift can be redeemed up to 1000 times (or up to a lower limit if the creator chooses) and for up to 12 months. Only members who aren’t already subscribed to a paid tier can claim this promotion.
On a similar note, creators can also give discounts on their paid membership tiers. “Whether creators set up limited-time holiday sales for all visitors or surprise specific groups with private discount codes, fans can now join a creator’s Patreon community at a more accessible price,” the blog post said. Creators can set up the discount percentage, discount codes, and choose whether the promotion applies for all membership tiers or a select few. The complimentary subscriptions and discounts should both show up in the “promotions” tab on the Patreon dashboard.
