I use Instagram though I’ll admit I consume content several times as much as I actually post my own content. However, on some of the occasions when I do post, I like to post as many images as I can. Since IG started permitting multiple pictures in a single post, the limit has always been 10 though.
Well, that’s about to change in a significant fashion, as Instagram is about to double that limit to 20 pictures and videos in a single post. The best part is that this new feature is rolling out right now, to all regions at the same time.
Instagram Lets You Shove Way More Content Into A Single Carousel Post Now
Instagram is a fantastic social media app. It’s hardly my favorite one in the world, but it is certainly one that I find myself opening a few times every day. For those who lead exciting lives where they travel the world, do different cool things every week, or have hobbies or professions that are very aesthetic, IG gives them a chance to share the visual side of things with their friends.
In the earliest days of Instagram, a single post could only have a single picture or a single video. Things eventually changed in 2017 and the application introduced the carousel post which gave users the opportunity to include 10 different pieces of content in a post. You’d be able to scroll through all of them by swiping to the left and right.
For some people out there, 10 photos/videos might not have been enough, and now Instagram has answered your prayers with its latest rollout. You will now be able to include 20 slides in a single carousel post, which is pretty awesome. If you don’t need that many, you don’t need to use it, but it’ll certainly help those people posting a dump of birthday, vacation, or adventure pictures.
The Feature Is Rolling Out Right Now In All Regions
If you want to get your hands on this feature, worry not, it is available to all Instagram users right away. The best part is this isn’t the kind of rollout that one region gets before the other — it’s a global release so you can start enjoying the feature right away.
This Could Potentially Be A Move To Compete Better With TikTok’s Slide Posts
This is just speculation, but as someone who uses TikTok quite a lot (more than I use Instagram at least), the first thing that came to my head was that Instagram could potentially be increasing the slide limit on its carousel posts to get closer to what TikTok can do with its.
On TikTok, a single slide post can contain up to 35 images with a single sound over all of them. I’ve seen it used to great effect for storytelling and recounting trips. Instagram still beats it by allowing videos to be mixed in.
With 20 posts, IG is now much closer to what TikTok offers. Love it or hate it, TikTok came in as a disruptor, and other apps have to find ways to provide the things people love the most about the ByteDance-owned platform.
