Microsoft has released an update for Edge on Xbox that provides the browser with almost everything the desktop version has. That means it can run the web version of Word and Excel, Discord, Stadia, and so much more.
Microsoft is rolling out a new version of its dashboard for Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X consoles, and it includes a very exciting update for Microsoft Edge. The browser is almost equal to the desktop version, but it lacks extensions and a developer mode.
With the new version of Edge, lots of web-based tools and apps that wouldn’t work on the browser before will now run perfectly. For example, you can run the web version of Microsoft Word and Excel from the browser on your game console. And with keyboard and mouse support, you can actually use them comfortably.
You can also stream Stadia games on your Xbox, which is something we certainly didn’t expect to see. Of course, most of the games on Stadia are available on Xbox, so we’re not sure why you’d want to stream them through Stadia, but it never hurts to have more options.
Another cool thing you can do with the new browser is access Discord, but unfortunately, you can’t use voice chat. You can join voice channels and listen to your friends, but the microphone isn’t supported.
Edge on Xbox will also sync your data with your computers so that you can keep your settings, favorites, tabs, and web history on your game console.
Even features like vertical tabs and Collections are available in the Xbox version of Edge, rounding out a genuinely desktop-like experience.
