If you love the Multiview feature on YouTube TV but wish it worked on more channels and content other than sports, we have good news. Over the weekend, Google announced that it’s experimenting with more multiview combinations, expanding the feature beyond sports, and I couldn’t be more excited.
In February, Google confirmed plans to improve the multiview experience with additional features and mentioned that it could one day work on content other than sports. Now, YouTube has officially started testing the new feature and revealed a new “always-on multiview” mode that you’ll probably love.

For those unfamiliar with YouTube TV’s multiview feature, it’s one of my favorite aspects of the streaming service. It lets you watch up to four games at a time. You can simultaneously stream basketball games from TBS, truTV, CBS, and TNT, watch four NFL games at once, or mix and match sports as your heart desires. You can choose which audio to hear of the four with your remote, and change it on the fly. It’s pretty great, but now you can build your own and add content from Bravo TV, USA, and non-sports.
On Reddit, the YouTube TV team confirmed that multiview now works on a small list of popular national channels, letting you stream a variety of genres at the same time. For now, the company is testing ESPN, Bravo, and USA, but plans to add more or change the lineup over time.
How to Use Multiview Outside of Sports
Imagine watching Sunday Night Football on NBC and a PGA Tour championship on ESPN, all while tracking rain from the weather channel and casually watching a show on USA—all simultaneously. The new multiview channels are slowly rolling out to users over the coming weeks, so if you don’t see them yet, be patient.
You can find and build a multiview the same way as before, only now it’ll populate content from more channels. Here’s how:
- From the Home tab, click into a multiview from the “Watch in multiview” row or “Top picks for you” row for personalized multiview recommendations.
- On your smart TV or streaming device, start watching an eligible channel and tap down on your controller to find or build a multiview.
- On your mobile device or tablet, start watching an eligible channel and tap “Multiview” on the player to find a multiview.
If you don’t want to manually build your own multiview, Google mentioned another neat feature coming soon. In the future, YouTube TV will offer an Always-on Multiview with your local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC channels. Basically, whenever you open YouTube TV, you’ll find a box with all four channels ready to go, making it easy to stay up-to-date on local news, watch sports, and more.
This all sounds pretty great and is one more reason why YouTube TV is one of the best options for TV streaming. Again, if you’re not seeing these new channels right away, they’ll gradually roll out to more subscribers over the coming weeks.
