Zach Apple will end his time in Tokyo with another gold medal and a world record.
The former Auburn swimmer and his Team USA teammates won gold and set a world record in the 4x100m medley relay on Saturday. Apple served as the team’s anchor swimming his 100 meters freestyle in 46.95.
Team USA finished the 4x100m medley relay in 3:26.78, which set a world record in the event. The previous world record time was 3:27.28 and was set by Team USA in 2009.
This is the second gold medal that Apple has won in this year’s Olympics. He also won as a member of Team USA’s 4x100m freestyle relay team.
The first-time Olympian swam in four events during his time in Tokyo. He was a part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team, 4x200m freestyle relay team and 4x100m medley relay team. As an individual, he swam in the 100m freestyle and made it to the semifinals but did not qualify for the finals.
