ZTE’s New Axon 60 Ultra Is Great, But You Truly Can’t Buy It

The ZTE Axon 60 Ultra Supersizes On Everything

The ZTE Axon 60 Ultra is the latest from the Chinese telecoms giant, and it brings a lot of improvements over last year’s Axon 50 Ultra, so let’s talk about it.

The Design

The first thing you notice about any device is its design. The Axon 60 Ultra changes up quite a bit from what the Axon 50 Ultra and Axon 40 Ultra had, but if I have to be truthful, I don’t like it, only because it blends into the scenery. The camera module in particular adopts a circular shape with four apparent lenses (though one houses the flashes), and that design is starting to be overdone.

Anyway, it has a two-tone back with plain black stripes at the edges and a large center stripe that has a black marble-style finish to it. The red power button is also rather eye-catching and I’m generally a fan of accented power keys. It is also IP68 water resistant.

The Screen

The display is flat and measures a very sizable 6.78 inches. It is an AMOLED panel that is HDR10 certified, has a 1.5K resolution, and supports up to 120Hz refresh. There’s a cutout for the selfie camera up top and a fingerprint reader beneath the screen.

The Hardware

This phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (curious choice not to include the Gen 3 chip) and comes with 12GB of RAM paired with 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.0 storage.

However, one of my favorite parts of this phone is the battery. It has a 6,000 mAh battery, which isn’t a very commonly seen thing in flagship phones (though they’re getting closer and closer). You’ll be able to charge it with up to 80W when plugged in, so despite its size, it shouldn’t take too long to juice up.

The phone also comes with the unique feature of two-way satellite connectivity and will support 5.5G out of the box as well, showing that ZTE isn’t playing around with the connectivity options.

The Cameras

The selfie camera is a 32MP lens capable of recording FHD at 30fps. However, the rear cameras are where the fun is at, with a 50MP primary lens with OIS, a 50MP 3x telephoto, and a macro lens to complete the trio. You’ll be able to record up to 8K at 30fps with this setup on the back.

Pricing And Availability? Doesn’t Matter, You Won’t Be Able To Buy It

So, with all of this hardware goodness inside, how much will the ZTE Axon 60 Ultra be? The thing is, we don’t know, because ZTE never mentioned anything about that.

On top of that fact, you simply won’t be able to buy this device as ZTE only intends to sell it in the Chinese government and enterprise sectors. So, as a regular consumer, you’ll be out of luck trying to get this device.
