Nubia’s RedMagic 7 and 7 Pro are official with RGB lighting, up to 135W fast charging, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor

It’s a little while since we reviewed the RedMagic 6R that featured an affordable price tag and a slightly muted design but the new 7 series is something else entirely, going all out to show its gaming credentials to all and sundry. The RedMagic 7 and 7 Pro are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and sport the necessary shoulder buttons and RGB lighting to make any gaming enthusiast sit up and take notice.

Besides being powered by Qualcomm’s newest flagship processor, the RedMagic 7 and 7 Pro feature 8/12GB and 12/18GB of LPDDR5 RAM respectively, and 128/256GB of built-in storage with the Pro variant also available in a 1TB configuration. Keeping the phone cool is a built-in fan that circulates air at up to 20,000RPM with a maximum noise level of 28dB. The RedMagic 7 has a single air duct to aid cooling while the 7 Pro boasts a pair.

Both units feature big 6.8-inch AMOLED displays with FHD+ resolution, but the vanilla RedMagic 7 sports a 165Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling while the Pro has a 10-bit panel with 960Hz touch sampling and a 120Hz refresh rate. The same trio of rear cameras, consisting of a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera, are present on both phones, with the Pro getting a bump up to a 16MP under-display selfie camera over the normal 8MP sensor on its lesser sibling.

A 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging is present on the RedMagic 7 with the 7 Pro going a step further with 135W fast charging and a 5,000mAh battery. RedMagic says that a 165W wall charger will be included in the box which is a nice touch.

You’ll also find a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 support, and 5G connectivity on both models which run RedMagic OS 5.0 (Android 12) out of the box. The RedMagic 7 series is all about gaming and besides the RGB lighting, you’ll find shoulder triggers with 500Hz touch sampling with a response time of just 7.4ms.

The RedMagic 7 and 7 Pro go on sale in China on February 21st with pricing starting at ~$630 and ~$750 respectively. The phones will be available in Cyber Neon, Polar Black Knight, and the Deuterium Transparent Edition which sports a glowing Red Magic logo and a lit-up cooling fan.
