The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra are two phones in the same lineup, but they differ from each other in many ways. Knowing how they compare against each other can make it easier for you to choose one of the two as your next daily driver.

Let’s talk about the different aspects of these devices and what makes them distinct.

Design

The most obvious difference when you see these phones side-by-side is their different designs. Sure, from the front alone, you might be unable to tell them apart (besides the fact that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a bigger footprint). The back is another story, though.

The Xiaomi 14 has a rounded square camera cutout in the upper left corner of the back panel, and the back panel can be made of either a silicone polymer (essentially plastic) or glass. Meanwhile, the 14 Ultra has a back panel of vegan leather or glass and a circular camera cutout that nearly takes up the upper half.

Both phones have aluminum frames, though you can get the 14 Ultra with a titanium frame, too.

Display

Both phones have somewhat similar panels. They’re both 120Hz LTPO OLED with a peak brightness of 3000 nits, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ certification.

However, the Ultra unsurprisingly has a bigger, higher-resolution screen at 6.73 inches and QHD+. The 14 makes do with a 6.36-inch FHD+ panel.

Chipset and Memory

Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and run on Android 14 skinned with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, so you get top performance either way. In the storage department, you get UFS 4.0 and a top storage configuration of 512GB on both, though the regular 14 has a second 256GB option. The Xiaomi 14 comes with 12GB RAM, and the Ultra with 16GB.

Cameras

The same 32MP selfie snapper is shared between these phones, so let’s get that out of the way. The rear cameras are only similar in the megapixel count but are very different modules (the f-stops give it away). The 14 Ultra has four rear cameras, and the 14 has three, all of which are 50MP.

On the 14, you get one wide, one 3.2x telephoto lens, and an ultrawide (115°). On the 14 Ultra, you get a variable aperture (f/1.6 to f/4.0) wide with a one-inch sensor, a 3.2x telephoto, a 5x telephoto, and an even wider ultrawide (122°), along with a TOF sensor for depth. Apart from the ultrawide, all the other lenses have OIS.

Both phones can record 8K at 24fps, though the 14 Ultra can do 30fps. Across the video recording spectrum, the 14 Ultra takes the prize with higher frame rates at each resolution down to 1080p.

Battery And Charging

You get a 4,610 mAh cell in the Xiaomi 14, which isn’t bad. But the international model of the 14 Ultra gives us what we want to see, with a 5,000 mAh battery.

Both devices can be charged with 90W wired charging, which should get you a full charge in roughly 30 minutes. The 14 Ultra gets the luxury of 80W wireless charging (which is insane), but the 14 makes do with 50W in that regard, which honestly still isn’t anything to scoff at.

Miscellaneous

You can get both devices in either black or white, though the Xiaomi 14 has a Jade Green colorway as well. The 14 uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to protect the display, but Xiaomi goes in-house with the Xiaomi Shield Glass on the 14 Ultra.

You can also buy a photography kit with the 14 Ultra, which gives you a woven case, a grip with a two-stage shutter button, a 1500 mAh battery, a zoom lever, a dial, and a recording button. You also get a 67mm filter adapter, which is great if you have 67mm filters.

Price

The Xiaomi 14 starts at about $1,085, while the Ultra model costs about $1,625. So, with more than $500 between these two phones, you get a lot extra with the bigger device. The question is whether all that’s worth it to you. Let us know in the comments.
